The color red, also known as flame is a color that is most found with males.
To breed a red female u need a red father en a mother that is red, cream or tortie.
Knowing this it doesn't have to be said that red females are very rare.
Kittens with the red color need more time to develop this color than darker colors like seal, blue or chocolate.

breeding with red and cream:
Red is a sex linked gene. The red gene is only carried on the x-chromosome. All females are xx and males are xy.
Each cell converts the coding of 1 x in the female cat during development.
This is random and u can see this at the spots red/cream in torties.
In cells were 1 x-chromosome has the red gene and the other x-chromosome does not,
u will see red or cream color were the red gene is turned on and were it is turned off u will see seal, blue, choc or lilac.
A tortie female has 1 red gene Oo.
A female with 2 red genes OO will be red or cream, it doesn't matter here wich chromosomes are turned off because they are all red.
Because males are the combination of 1 x-chromosome and 1 y-chromosome, they only need 1 red gene to be red or cream.
